Dr. Prof. A.J.P. (Fons) Smolders

Fons Smolders is a doctor in Biology and Ecology, researcher and professor of Applied Biogeochemistry at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Through the B-WARE Research Center, it carries out important research on restoration and management of natural areas at a national and international level.
For 18 years (1997 – 2015) he monitored and carried out extensive and complete research on the Pilcomayo River, with the main research topic being the Tarpon fish (Prochilodus lineatus), mining pollution and the effects on human health. More than thirty students from Radboud University participated in all these investigations.
Lover and connoisseur of the Pilcomayo River and the Tarija Chaco, he collaborates with great enthusiasm in this Environmental Research and Education Center.
